MK Zevulun Orlev (Jewish Home) expressed satisfaction Wednesday with the passage of a bill that grants children who lost both parents to terrorism lifelong benefits. “The state has a moral obligation toward those orphans... The state must guarantee their financial future, and moreover, guarantee humane treatment of the orphans... [and] provide for their financial and emotional needs,” he said.
MK Dalia Itzik (Kadima), who cosponsored the bill along with Orlev, said, “The Knesset has taken the first step today towards fixing the great wrong done to the orphans. Their loss is unfathomable. They lost everything dear to them, and the state of Israel must do everything in its power to ease their burden even a little.”
The bill, which passed 45-1, will give orphans lifelong benefits equivalent to those given to widows or widowers of fallen soldiers. Previously those orphaned by terrorism were given financial assistance into their early 20s.
