Police said Sunday morning that they had arrested and questioned Rabbi Ya'akov Yosef, son of Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, over an approbation he wrote for the book Torat Hamelech. Police said they questioned Rabbi Yosef and released him an hour later. The Honenu legal rights organization confirmed that he had been released.

Observers said that police, hoping to avoid the public arrest of Rabbi Dov Lior that took place last week and immediately generated mass protests, arrested Rabbi Yosef early Sunday at a time when his students and supporters would most likely be busy with morning prayers.
