After a tour of Kiryat Shmona Sunday morning, National Union chairman MK Yaakov Katz (Ketzaleh) said he intends to propose a special law to help the city grow. Ketzaleh was on a tour of the city with other National Union Mks. City officials told the Mks that the recent slashing of the government's grants to local authorities had badly damaged the city's ability to offer services that would attract new residents, and that the city was stagnating. The law Ketzaleh intends to propose would help double the city's population from 25,000 to 50,000 in a short time, he said.
"We will present this law in the coming days and I have no doubt that all Mks will support it, because everyone is in favor of helping the city develop," Ketzaleh said.
