So it’s come to this. The PA (Palestinian Authority) is upset with us…so upset that its leaders are threatening to cut ties with us here in the United States.
All that started soon after President Trump delivered on his promise to name Jerusalem the capital of Israel…to which we can only say Amen.
Come to think of it, this is actually the tenth time the Palestinian Arabs have made that threat…but who’s counting?
More to the point – who cares?
Is there a downside to this? I see nothing but good. Are we supposed to be afraid?
I think Freud talked about this; about people with a false sense of importance. He did not have the Palestinian Arabs specifically in mind.
That’s because there were no such people in his day, or any day. There is no such thing as a Palestinian people…other, perhaps, than language that appears in David Lean’s “Lawrence of Arabia”…of “a little people, a silly people, greedy, barbarous and cruel.”
Or think of the movie “The Mouse That Roared” to get some idea of silly people that plan an attack upon the United States only to get some attention.
Upon such delusions of grandeur Abbas operates and says he’s had enough. Then further threatens to cut Mike Pence down to size; won’t meet with him when he shows up, indeed incites his goons to riot at Pence’s arrival… and naturally this should have our vice president and our president shaking in their boots.
After all, Mahmoud Abbas has spoken, and when Abbas speaks people listen.
Palestinian Arabs have been hugged, pampered and nurtured for so long from the Europeans and the United Nations that it’s no wonder they believe that they actually count for something. So we’re listening and what’s it supposed to mean? I guess, for us here in America, it means that our lives will never be the same without the PA at our side.
No more football…no more baseball…schools close, cars, trains and planes stop running and our stock market crashes and shuts down.
Truly, though, these Palestinian Arabs have been hugged, pampered and nurtured for so long from the Europeans and the United Nations that it’s no wonder they believe that they actually count for something…and no wonder they’re deluded with an exaggerated sense of self-esteem.
Ordinarily the real world does not give them a second thought, that is, until they make the only thing they know how to make…trouble. So they are also threatening to scuttle the Oslo peace process. Which one? You know, the one where the PA offers handsome payoffs to any Arab who murders any Israeli. Yes, that one. That peace process. But the times they are a-changing all right, starting with the Saudis.
With Iran (made richer and fatter thanks to Obama/Kerry) looming over the entire region, and posing a threat to the entire world, as Nikki Haley just pointed out -- who ya gonna call?
The Sunni states are calling on Israel, yes Israel.
You think only the Jews need a strong Israel? Think again. So do the Arabs…the ones who’ve finally come to their senses.
So too all of us in the United States. We likewise need Israel’s muscle and stability in the face of so much chaos in the region.
But now Abbas says that he does not want the United States mixing into his business. That’s a laugh because that is precisely what Trump has in mind.
Trump has wisely decided to let go…and to let the two sides figure it out for themselves.
As to my friends so miserable because Tillerson and the State Department are dragging on the embassy, I say relax. Trump did enough for one year.
He declared Jerusalem the capital of Israel. It does not get any bigger than that…and the symbolism of it is far greater than the bricks and mortar of an embassy.
As I wrote earlier: “One brick at a time.”
If I’m wrong about that, try this – the Palestinian Arabs will quiet down only after they finally realize that they are owed no share of Jerusalem and no part of Israel.
