Opposition leader Yair Lapid responded this evening (Thursday) to the firing of dozens of rockets at Israel by terrorists in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip over the first day of Passover.

"Today, Israel is in a conflict in four arenas at the same time: on the northern border, in the Gaza Strip, in Judea and Samaria, and in Jerusalem. After the previous government brought security and political peace, the current government's extreme and irresponsible conduct has led to a serious damage to our deterrence," Lapid claimed.

"Our enemies are wrong in their assessment of our internal resilience. When it comes to security, there is no opposition or coalition in the State of Israel. We will stand united against any enemy. The opposition will give the government full backing for a tough response by the IDF and the security forces," he said.

"Israel should respond at the time and place that are right for us. We should not play into the hands of those who are trying to inflame the region during the month of Ramadan. Instead of following the schedule of our enemies, we should respond with force and without mercy in accordance with the assessment of the developing situation by the security forces. I am sending reinforcements from here to the residents of the north, to the residents of the Gaza envelope, to the IDF, to the Israel Police and to all the people of Israel."

At least 34 rockets were fired from Lebanon into northern Israel on Thursday. In addition, two rockets were fired from Gaza at southern Israel on Wednesday night, the night of the Passover Seder.

Two people have been injured in the rocket attacks from Lebanon.

The Security Cabinet will convene shortlky to discuss the rocket attacks and Israel's response.
