A U-Haul truck ran over a biker and multiple pedestrians in Brooklyn at around 11 a.m. on Monday.
The truck, which was described as “out-of-control” according to reports, hit an unknown number of pedestrians at three spots in the Bay Ridge area.
The truck then proceeded north on the Gowanus Expressway before exiting at which time he was surrounded by police cars and taken into custody, according to BoroPark24.
The bomb squad was at the scene going over the truck for explosives.
Footage showed the truck parked on the sidewalk near the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel. Multiple emergency vehicles were surrounding it.
The incident occurred as a jury is preparing to consider the death penalty for Sayfullo Saipov, the Islamist extremist who murdered eight people when he deliberately rammed a truck into a group of bicyclists in Manhattan in 2017. Saipov was convicted of the murders last month.
It is currently unknown if today's incident was deliberate or if there is any connection with Saipov's trial.
