Today (Thursday), the Chief of the General Staff, LTG Aviv Kohavi, was presented with the conclusions drawn by the committee established following the death of the late Staff Sergeant Natan Fitoussi from the gunfire of another soldier on August 15, 2022.

The late Staff Sergeant Natan Fitoussi was killed during an operational activity at the Judea and Samaria security barrier, adjacent to the town of Shuweika. Following Staff Sergeant Natan Fitoussi’s death, the Commanding Officer of the Central Command, MG Yehuda Fuchs, ordered that a dedicated committee of experts led by COL Liron Biton be established. The committee was tasked with examining the contributing factors of the incident, drawing conclusions and formulating recommendations to prevent similar incidents from reoccurring in the future. This was done in addition to conducting an official investigation into the incident.

The command investigation was presented to the Chief of the General Staff after it was concluded two months ago. The findings of the committee of experts, which were presented to the Chief of the General Staff today (Thursday), reiterated the importance of the manner in which routine missions at the security barrier are organized and assigned and the level at which they are carried out. The committee emphasized the importance of providing resources for training and managing an operational routine at all levels of command. The conclusions drawn by the committee will be applied and implemented throughout the IDF’s different missions and training programs.

The circumstances of the incident are currently under investigation by the Military Police Corps. The findings of the investigation will be submitted to the Military Advocate General’s Corps for examination.

The Chief of the General Staff received the recommendations and conclusions drawn by the committee, expressed deep sorrow for the incident and ordered that the application of the lessons be carried out in a thorough manner.

The IDF sends its condolences to the family of the late Staff Sergeant Natan Fitoussi and will continue to support them.
