Famed rapper and former Trump supporter Kanye West has reportedly dropped out of the 2020 presidential race less than two weeks after he entered it, New York Magazine reported.

West told election strategist Steve Kramer that he was withdrawing his candidacy after hiring Kramer last week to help get his name on the ballot in Florida, South Carolina and other states.

Kramer said that West's staff had been “working over weekend there, formalizing the FEC and other things that they’ve got to do when you have a lot of corporate lawyers involved.”

West has not publicly confirmed that he is dropping out of the race.

West said in an interview with Forbes last week that he lost confidence in President Trump during the coronavirus crisis and nation-wide protests over the police killing of George Floyd.

"It looks like one big mess to me," West said. "I don't like that I caught wind that he hid in the bunker" during a protest outside the White House.

He announced then that he would run for president against Trump and presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden under a new party called the "Birthday Party."

He further stated that he intends to win despite running as a third party and missing the deadlines to be on the ballot in several states.

In another part of the interview, West said that he had contracted the coronavirus in February, saying that he had chills.

West has frequently supported President Donald Trump and suggested in April that he was going to vote for him this fall.
