Knesset legal adviser Eyal Yinon submitted his opinion to Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein that MK Basel Ghattas should be banned from participating in votes at the Knesset.

"An MK who is under arrest, whether in be house arrest or other forms of detention which prevent him from reaching the Knesset, is unable to vote in Knesset committees or the plenary, even though the Knesset is not able to replace him." Yinon wrote in his statement to Edelstein.

Edelstein stated that he trusts the opinion of the Attorney General and that Ghattas will not be allowed back to the Knesset to participate in votes while he remains under arrest.

Ghattas was arrested after he confessed to illegally smuggling mobile phones to security prisoners in Israeli prisons, allowing them to coordinate and plan terrorist activity from their cells, and voluntarily agreed to be stripped of his parliamentary immunity.
