Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon (Likud) announced in the Knesset on Wednesday night that the defense establishment intends to a build an updated security fence between Hevron and Kiryat Gat.

The sophisticated and hermetically sealed fence will be built within a year and will cost hundreds of millions of shekels, with financing coming from the recently approved defense budget.

The decision to build a more secure fence comes in the wake of the terror stabbing in Kiryat Gat on Saturday night, in which the terrorist, a resident of the village of Yatir near Hevron, apparently snuck into the Lachish district through holes in the existing fence.

Ya'alon said Wednesday that the measure was a response to Likud MK Miki Zohar's petition over the security situation in Kiryat Gat.

"In response to MK Miki Zohar's claims of openings in the fence between Kiryat Gat and Hevron - [I note] we are aware of the problem."

"We plan to build a massive fence similar to the fence along the Egyptian border," Ya'alon vowed. "It will take some time but it will happen."

Four people were moderately injured in the stabbing in Kiryat Gat, including a 51-year-old man, a 56-year-old woman, a 44-year-old woman and a 13-year-old girl. They are being treated at Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon.

The terrorist managed to flee the scene of the attack but was caught hours later hiding in the yard of a private house in Kiryat Gat.
