Former president Moshe Katzav got his first leave from prison Sunday to attend his son’s wedding. Katzav is serving a seven-year term for rape.

Katzav was granted leave despite having not yet completed the first third of his sentence, or expressed remorse. He continues to deny committing the crimes for which he was convicted.

Journalists were on hand to snap his picture as he left Maasiyahu prison in a suit, headed for his brother’s BMW, where his wife Gila was waiting. Katzav did not comment.

Before heading to the wedding Katzav and his family stopped in Ramle to sign documents accepting a fine of several hundreds of thousands of shekels if Katzav does not return to jail by the end of the night.

The wedding is that of Katzav’s third child, his son Noam. Hundreds are expected to attend the event, including many of Moshe Katzav’s relatives and friends.
