Israel’s fiery Rabbi Amnon Yitzchak hosted a mass protest that ended with Jews throwing 1,000 televisions into the garbage.

In a modern version of the traditional Rosa HaShanah "tashlikh” ceremony,” when Jews cast stones on a body of water as a symbolic act of throwing away sins, Rabbi Yitzchak held the anti-television demonstration outside the Israel Broadcasting Authority building near Jerusalem’s central bus station.

Many Jews, especially hareidi religious but also national religious, refuse to allow televisions into their homes because it takes away time from learning Torah and also because of programming content that is immodest and often, if not usually, banal and considered a waste of time and the mind.

Rabbi Yitzchak, who was raised in a non-religious home in Tel Aviv, is widely known for helping secular Jews return to Judaism.
