Last Wednesday, approximately 100 Jewish communities from around North America marked their solidarity with the Shalit family and prayed for the safe return of Gilad Shalit.
Gilad Shalit has been held captive by Hamas in Gaza for over five years. During that time, he has not been allowed one single visit from the International Red Cross.
Bnei Akiva, working together with various community leaders, organized a worldwide “rally” for Gilad Shalit, with the goal being to hold the ceremony at the same time in all 100 communities. Some of the communities even held an online chat with Gilad’s parents, Aviva and Noam Shalit, on giant screens.
Some communities chose to express their solidarity by reciting Psalms, while others chose to tell Gilad Shalit’s story and the story of his kidnapping.
