Worshippers at the Tomb of the Biblical matriarch Rachel, in Bethlehem, held a ceremony last week in which they introduced a new Torah scroll written in the merit of kidnapped IDF soldier Gilad Shalit.

Organizers explained that Rachel's Tomb holds special significance when it comes to captives and exiles. According to Jewish tradition, Rachel's prayers on behalf of the Jewish people guaranteed their eventual return to the land of Israel.
