President Charles Michel of the European Council said on Thursday, "Following the travel ban that United States President Donald Trump announced, we will assess the situation today."
Writing on Twitter, the Belgian politician added, "Economic disruption must be avoided. Europe is taking all necessary measures to contain the spread of the coronavirus, limit the number of affected people and support research."
