Chairman Itzik Shmuli of the Labor Party Knesset faction has responded to the withdrawal of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's request for immunity from prosecution on corruption charges by saying, "Since Netanyahu has decided to withdraw his request for immunity from the Knesset, the attorney general must, as required, transfer the indictment to the court today."
Shmuli added, "Israel is indeed facing important historical decisions, but as Netanyahu himself testified regarding his predecessor in office - a prime minister charged with criminal acts has no mandate to make decisions for his state and his people. Netanyahu needs to update his new status - from a White House guest to the defendants' bench."
