Chairman Amir Peretz of the Labor-Gesher Party called on the state, Thursday, to get involved in the cellular telephone market, where labor leaders say hundreds of workers face layoffs at providers Cellcom and Pelephone.

The former Histadrut Labor Federation leader said, "Sacking hundreds of employees is not just a problem for the company and the employees, it is a national problem. The fact that managers choose the easy way of laying off employees rather than making an effort to increase revenue indicates managerial failure, and those who should be held accountable are the company's executives." He added, "Dismissals of this magnitude are a crisis that the state must intervene in."
