President Reuven Rivlin has used the words "brave and welcome" Pope Francis’s decision to authorize the opening of the Vatican archives for the period of the Holocaust."

Rivlin said the decision "will allow free and unmediated access to records of the darkest period in human history. Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. This step is particularly important in these days of ongoing anti-Semitic attacks, the rewriting of history and attempts to deny the Holocaust.”
