Member of Knesset Amir Peretz (Hatenu'ah) said, Tuesday morning, that his campaign financing was by the book. Interviewed by Israel Defense Forces Radio in response to charges by Labor Party Chairwoman Shelly Yechimovich that he was the unnamed former senior minister mentioned in a Yediot Acharonot article about vote-buying during the primary elections of a major party, the former defense minister said, "It never happened."
Peretz - who finished in third place in the Labor primaries - continued, "These things are surreal and fabricated. Each payment I make is under the provisions of the state comptroller. I have been through many primaries and have never received a comment from the state comptroller. I will not let my name be sullied. I have observed small laws just like big laws all my life."
