Chairwoman Shelly Yechimovich of the Labor party said, Tuesday morning, that Member of Knesset Amir Peretz (Hatenu'ah) - a former Labor chairman, was the senior minister not named in a Yediot Acharonot report about vote-buying in an unnamed major-party primary. Interviewed by Israel Defense Forces Radio, Yechimovich condemned such acts. She said they were unknown at the time but if they had been known she would have gone to the police. She also expressed satisfaction that Peretz was no longer a member of Labor.
Peretz resonded by calling Yechimovich's remarks an "irresponsible statement of the chairman of the party one of whose features is to falsely accuse people. We advise that she wait before rejoicing at someone's downfall."
