Minister Michael Eitan welcomed Sunday evening’s decision to delay the voting for the Chairmanship of the Likud Central Committee, following a request that the election be by secret ballot.
“The Likud’s democracy won tonight,” said Eitan. “The delegates to the conference demonstrated that their unconditional support for Netanyahu does not prevent them from protesting against attempts to empty the conference from all content and pass resolutions using a method of raising a hand without order and without keeping the rules basic of democracy.”
“I’m sure that the Likud emerged strengthened from the evening, will generate the necessary lessons and will continue to lead the Israeli democracy,” he added. “This would be infinitely better than parties that promise a better future but do not have democratic procedures, reserve spots for their leaders and give them absolute strength.”
