Rabbi Israel Ariel, the head of the Temple Institute in Jerusalem released a statement disagreeing with the Chief Rabbis of Israel. Rabbi Ariel defended his advocacy of ascending the Temple Mount in Jerusalem's Old City. Chief Rabbi Yona Metzger and Chief Rabbi Shlomo Amar earlier this week issued a statement forbidding the practice on religious grounds. Rabbi Ariel quoted the late Chief Rabbi Shlomo Goren who wrote about the issue. Both Rabbi Goren and Rabbi Ariel were among the first to visit the Temple Mount in the midst of the Six Day War in 1967 when it was liberated from the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
