Is the IDF Trying to Coverup Truth in Soldier's Death?

Nissim Maoz, the uncle of soldier Dvir Moore Onikovski, who died, Monday of a severe infection at Soroka Hospital in Be'er Sheva, has called on Air Force Commander Ido Nechushtan to establish a commission of inquiry into his nephew's death, according to a Tuesday report by Yisrael Hayom. Maoz told the newspaper that Onikovski complained of pains and high fever but was only taken to hospital after his body systems collapsed. The family refuses to believe the Israel Defense Forces' contention that it followed procedure and hospitalized him as soon as he complained. Maoz said, "Clearly there was a major failure," adding, "His commanders should have taken responsibility and flown him immediately to hospital."

The IDF said a preliminary investigation indicates that the soldier complained about his condition on Friday and was referred to the base infirmary for observation. He was transferred to Soroka on Shabbat, after there was no improvement and an infection was detected. The military added that it will carry out a thorough investigation.
