Israeli Football Association (IFA) Prosecutor Shalom Even-Ezra has decided not to punish the Bnei Sakhnin or Ahi Nazareth soccer teams for their fans’ behavior during recent matches. Supporters of the two Arab teams refused to respect a moment of silence called in honor of eight young Jewish students who were slain in a terrorist shooting in Jerusalem last week.
Even-Ezra based his decision not to punish the teams on a Supreme Court ruling that stated that Beitar Jerusalem should not be forced to play games without an audience due to fans’ interruption of a moment of silence in honor of slain Prime Minister Yitzchak Rabin. Shortly after the court issued its decision, Even-Ezra punished Beitar Jerusalem for fans’ shouts of “Mohammed is dead” during a game between Bnei Sakhnin and Bnei Yehuda.
