Knesset Members who participated in the State Control Committee's debate regarding Hevron Thursday sent a letter to Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, asking him to halt legal action against Peace House until the State Ombudsman and Comptroller looks into the matter.
The committee members wrote Olmert that "during the debate, we were informed of non-egalitarian and improper governmental conduct." The MKs went on to write: "The representatives of the governmental apparatus said that this conduct was a product of a political directive by former Defense Minister Amir Peretz, and in effect, his directives continue to serve as a basis for objectionable governmental conduct."
The letter was signed by Knesset Members Levi, Orlev, Ariel and Eldad (NU/NRP) Eitan and Livnat (Likud), Rotem (Yisrael Beiteinu), Schneller (Kadima) and Ze'ev (Shas). An IDF court has issued a verdict supporting Jewish residents of Peace House and criticizing state prosecutors.
