(IsraelNN.com) In its response to petitions in the case against former president Moshe Katzav, the State explained that "the Attorney General's duty does not include providing the public with catharsis." This statement was a reaction to claims that the public in Israel was severely disappointed by the fact that Katzav was not charged with rape, as leaks had led it to believe he would be.

Regarding the supposedly radical difference between the draft charge sheet (which was prepared in January 2007) and the final one (from June), the State said that "the gap between January and June is not and never was as deep and wide as the public thought."
