Strong Congressional opposition has forced the Bush administration to backtrack from a proposed $20 billion arms sale package to Saudi Arabia, Defense News reported. The State Department notified Congress of a suggested $10.8 billion arms sale program for Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates but postponed, at least until 2008, the request to sell satellite-guided bomb kits to Saudi Arabia.
Approximately 250 Congressmen expressed their opposition to the proposed sale in two signed letters to American President George W. Bush. They were concerned that Saudi Arabia can use the same weapons against Israel or even American troops in the Middle East.
