US President Joe Biden and his top aides have begged Israel's leadership to avoid a widescale attack on Hezbollah which may drag it into the war, The New York Times reported.
According to an NYT article signed by three journalists including Ynet and Yediot Aharonot journalist Ronen Bergman, "the Americans are conveying to the Israelis the difficulties of battling both Hamas in the south and a much more powerful Hezbollah force in the north."
The article added, "US officials believe Israel would struggle in a two-front war and that such a conflict could draw in both the United States and Iran, the militia’s main supporter."
Defense Minister Yoav Gallant (Likud) has said that the main military effort needs to be focused specifically on Hezbollah, "since it constitutes a greater threat than Hamas," sources said.
Gallant also told US Secretary of State Antony Blinken last week that he supports a preventive attack on Hezbollah, but his proposal was rejected by others sources. The IDF also proposed a plan which focused on a widescale attack on Israel's enemies to the north, but Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected it.
