Palestinian Authority (PA) cabinet leader Mohammad Shtayyeh on Tuesday slammed the United States for not presenting any initiative to revive the peace process with Israel.
"US President Joe Biden and his administration is the only US president and administration that didn't present any initiative to resolve the conflict," Shtayyeh said at a conference held in the city of Al-Bireh, as quoted by the Xinhua news agency.
"President Biden is also the only one who did not send an envoy for peace, and this US government is playing the role of a spectator in the light of the practices Israel is carrying out in the Palestinian territories," he claimed.
"The Palestinians are looking forward to a different approach from the international community ... to deal with the issue of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict," said Shtayyeh.
The most recent round of US-sponsored Israeli-PA peace talks broke down in 2014, when the PA unilaterally applied to join international organizations in breach of the conditions of the talks.
In recent years, the PA has sought a different avenue to talks. In September of 2020, the PA said it began preliminary diplomatic steps to hold an international conference in an attempt to bypass talks with Israel.
In addition, the PA has turned to China and to Russia to mediate talks. In October of 2022, Abbas met with Putin and restated his mistrust of Washington in resolving the conflict with Israel while expressing appreciation for Russia's role in the process.
