A four-year-old boy was brought to a medical clinic in Jerusalem this afternoon (Thursday) with severe heatstroke after being left in a hot car for an extended period.
Magen David Adom (MDA) medics and paramedics treated the child and evacuated him while performing CPR to Shaare Zedek Medical Center.
Doctors at the hospital continued to attempt to resuscitate the boy, but he could not be revived and was declared dead.
Shaare Zedek said in a statement "A 4-year-old toddler was brought to the pediatric ER in critical condition during a complete and long resuscitation effort. The EMS team continued the long resuscitation efforts, but unfortunately, we had to pronounce him dead. We share in the family's deep sorrow and the hospital's teams are accompanying them at this time."
MDA paramedic Zohar Maman, who treated the boy, said: "We arrived at the clinic and they led us to the treatment room where the boy was lying unconscious and the doctors on the spot were performing resuscitation operations on him. He was very hot to the touch after being in a locked vehicle for a long time. We continued to give him medical treatment and perform advanced resuscitation operations and evacuated him in an intensive care vehicle to the hospital when he was in critical condition."
United Hatzalah medic Yehiel Stern said: "According to his family members, the boy stayed in the car for a long time and subsequently lost consciousness. With the help of the HMO team and a volunteer doctor from United Hatzalah, we performed CPR on him, and then he was taken in an intensive care unit to Shaare Zedek Hospital in critical condition while resuscitation operations continued."
