Instagram was down for more than 98,000 users on Sunday, according to outage tracking website Downdetector.com.
The website said that the first reports of trouble started a few minutes after 6:00 p.m. ET before spiking to over 175,000 reports at its peak.
Several hours later, users were able to access the platform once again. Meta confirmed Instagram was back up for most users.
"Earlier today, a technical issue caused some people to have trouble accessing Instagram. We resolved the issue as quickly as possible for everyone who was impacted," a Meta spokesperson told Reuters.
Other services belonging to Instagram’s parent company Meta, like Facebook, WhatsApp, or Horizon Worlds, were unaffected, according to The Verge.
