The London headquarters of pro-Israel NGO StandWithUs was broken into on Tuesday night, during which a threatening message was left inside.
A Yahrzeit candle was lit and placed next to one of the charity’s campaign shirts, the UK Jewish News reported.
The break-in was discovered by a staff member the morning of Yom Ha'atzmaut (Israel Independence Day).
The north London-based advocacy organization filed a police report and notified the Community Security Trust (CST), the organization tasked with security for the British Jewish community. CST opened an investigation and is examining security camera footage.
StandWithUs described the burning memorial candle next to the shirt with its name on it as a “a violent and threatening message aimed at our staff.”
“In a calculated attack, the perpetrators broke through the ceiling into the office and left a lit memorial candle placed next to a StandWithUs t-shirt,” StandWithUs told the news outlet. “The implication of this is clear – they are sending a violent and threatening message aimed at our organization and our staff.”
StandWithUs UK executive director Isaac Zarfati added: “This intimidation is indicative of what Jewish and Zionist students face regularly from those who seek to discriminate against them. It will not stand.”
