One of the people who were injured in Tuesday morning's attack in the Shimon HaTzadik neighborhood in Jerusalem was Rabbi Jacob Ben Panina Mozes, 48. He was taken to Hadassah Mount Scopus hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest.

At the hospital, he was operated on by Senior Prof. Haggi Mazeh, director of the surgery department at Hadassah Mount Scopus, who removed the bullet. The true extent of the miracle he had undergone soon became clear - the bullet had only barely missed his heart.

Medical consultant Rabbi Shimon Bruin, the chairman of "Yad Avraham" organization which arranges visits to patients, stayed with Rabbi Jacob throughout the process and has not left his bed since the attack. Rabbi Jacob has has been taken to the orthopedic ward for recovery.

Rabbi Jacob commented on the miracle and said, "It was a real miracle that could have ended, heaven forbid, in a tragic way." Had the terrorist moved his hand an inch, or shot a second earlier or later, Rabbi Jacob believes the results could have been fatal.

At Shaare Zedek Hospital, meanwhile, there was an improvement in the condition of the second shooting victim - Rabbi Moshe Yosef ben Malka Haas, 50 years old. He successfully underwent surgery for three hours, but has regained consciousness and will soon be moved to the recovery ward.

Both victims were shot Tuesday morning while driving to prayers in the Shimon Hatzadik neighborhood of Jerusalem. They were able to continue driving until they reached a police force station nearby. Police and ISA forces in large numbers have launched a manhunt for the shooter.

Menashe Haas, the son of Rabbi Moshe, told Galei Tzahal (IDF Radio): "He was on his way back from prayers when he was injured. For decades he has been taking this route and in recent years, due to a feeling of insecurity, he would travel by car and not walk."
