Supreme Court Justice Alex Stein responded today (Monday) to the petition submitted by the Movement for Quality Government in Israel which sought to prevent the appointment of Shas chairman Aryeh Deri as a minister of the new government given his conviction for tax offenses.
Justice Stein stated that the respondents to the petition - Benjamin Netanyahu, Aryeh Deri, the Knesset, the attorney General and the state attorney - will respond to the petition by next Wednesday.
He stated that the petition was premature and that he therefore does not consider it appropriate to issue an interim injunction to prevent Deri's appointment as a minister
