The official convoy of Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan (Likud) was attacked this week with a barrage of rocks as the minister toured the Palestinian Authority village of Abu Dis near Jerusalem.
Erdan, who was in his vehicle during the attack, was not injured, but his armored vehicle was damaged and its windshield cracked, 0404 reported.
On Wednesday, Erdan’s office confirmed that “Minister Erdan held a tour with police and officers of the Jerusalem area as part of efforts to strengthen the region. The rock-throwing from the Islamic University in Abu Dis underscores the need to strengthen the region’s security and increase aggressive activity against the terrorists.”
A Border Police officer who spoke with 0404 said that Erdan had survived the incident “by a miracle.”
“I salute Minister Erdan for not getting excited and relying completely on the police force. He is the only minister who goes out to see the challenges we face, entering hostile areas without apprehension so as to learn about the area and know how to assist us - the police,” the officer said.
