The Central District Court sentenced on Monday morning terrorist Tarek Ben Khalil Dweik, who committed a stabbing attack in Raanana in October 2015, to 17 years in prison.
Dweik is a resident of eastern Jerusalem.
According to the indictment, Dweik spoke several times about being a "shahid" (martyr) and dying a "holy death" prior to carrying out the attack.
Two days before the attack, Dweik began working at a construction site in Raanana. Upon or shortly after arriving at work on the day of the attack, he decided to commit a terror attack, with the aim of stabbing passersby to death.
Dweik concealed a knife in his pants pocket and walked to 98 Ahuza Street in Raanana, where he spotted a person waiting at a bus stop. Realizing that the person was most likely a Jew, Dweik decided to kill him.
He pulled his knife out of his pocket, yelled "Allahu akhbar!" and began to stab the victim with his knife. The Jewish victim fought off Dweik, and continued fighting after he fell to the ground.
Several passersby noticed the commotion, kicked the knife out of Dweik's hand and subdued him until police arrived on the scene.
The victim was transferred to the hospital in serious condition, suffering stab wounds to his body and face.
