The award ceremony for the Moskowitz Prize for Zionism will be held on Monday at the Sultan's Pool in Jerusalem, as it has been over the past ten years.
Arutz Sheva spoke with Prize Committee Director Ruth Lieberman.
"This year, we celebrate ten years of the Moskowitz Prize for Zionism, and fifty years since Jerusalem's liberation," Lieberman said. "The prize will be given to Moshe Arnes, who is a member of the prize committee, but who absolutely deserves to receive it."
"We decided it was a good opportunity to celebrate with him."
When asked about Arnes' public life, Lieberman noted that the video editors debated which of his activities should be included. Including everything would produce a video of over an hour, but the goal was to create a video lasting only a few minutes.
Among other things, Arnes worked to prevent the expulsion of Jews from Sinai, and worked to aid Israel's security and diplomatic efforts over the course of dozens of years.
Beginning the event will be Israel Prize winner Yehoram Gaon.
According to Lieberman, Gaon was invited to a meal with Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump, but was forced to decline, since his participation in the dinner would preclude his participation in the Moskowitz Prize event, to which he had already committed.
Trump's delegation was invited to participate in the event, and Lieberman noted that some of the delegates may well attend the Sultan's Pool event while the Netanyahus and Trumps dine.
Also participating in the event will be musician Hanan Ben Ari and lyricist Elai Botner with his "Yaldei Hahutz" group.
Education Minister Naftali Bennett (Jewish Home) and Culture and Sport Minister Miri Regev (Likud) will both speak at the event, which Lieberman described as "the most important event during the week of Jerusalem Day."
"In light of the doubts cast by those who are deny Jerusalem's connection to the Jewish nation, it's very important to remember that we have a responsibility for our own future, and we are not dependent on anyone," Lieberman said. "This is the message of our celebration, and it's extremely important."
Lieberman emphasized that not all tickets have been sold. Many roads will be closed for Trump's visit, but special shuttles will bring people to and from the event.
The Moskowitz Prize for Zionism's event will take place at the Sultan's Pool in Jerusalem, on Monday, May 22 at 7:00p.m.
