Israeli supermodel Bar Rafaeli will not get the wedding of her dreams, after an order for a no-fly zone over her imminent nuptials has been overturned by authorities.
Refaeli (30) is set to tie the knot in an extravagant ceremony on Thursday with Israeli businessman Adi Ezra (40), heir to the giant food import company Neto ME Holdings, Ltd.
On Friday, the Civil Aviation Authority published orders to pilots and airlines, declaring the airspace over the Carmel forests - where the ceremony will take place - as a no-fly zone during the wedding on Thursday from 5 p.m. until 2 a.m.
The decision sparked both great anger and confusion, and on Sunday Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz overturned the order.
According to Channel 2, police were surprised by the move to issue a no-fly zone in the first place, questioning what would happen if they had to go on an air-chase after suspects.
In addition, one pilot who had planned to fly in the area at the time complained to Yedioth Aharonoth on Friday that "closing public air resources because of the request of a celeb who wants privacy is like closing the Ayalon Highway because a celeb doesn't want one of the cars on the road to photograph him at home."
Katz was also quite displeased, and the Transportation Minister eventually instructed the Civil Aviation Authority to cancel the order.
"The sky belongs to all Israeli citizens, and we cannot place preference on one event over other events. We must keep an appearance of equality in providing permits for flights," Katz explained.
