A fired-up MK Rabbi Shai Piron (Yesh Atid) took to Facebook on Monday to mediate between left and right-wingers in the wake of actor Oded Kotler, referring to Likud voters as a "marching herd of beasts chewing straw and stubble.”
"Have you lost your minds? I hear Kotler and Garbuz, Miri [Regev], all the firebrands from the Left and Right. Have you decided to break us apart? To turn us into disparate tribes?" Piron charged.
"Have you decided to behave contemptuously and condescendingly, roughly and with incitement?" Piron continued. "You have decided to flame hatred, to deepen incitement and polarization. Let's stop it."
"Israel is our only homeland," the former education minister stressed. "And it has diverse cultures. Nobody has a monopoly on "the correct culture"; no one has a monopoly on Zionism and nationalism."
"Enough," he declared. "We have invested enough hatred. Hasn't the time for love come or at least understanding.
While calling for unity, Piron did side with current Education Minister Naftali Bennett (Jewish Home) in his decision to remove "A Parallel Time" - a play based on the life of the terrorist who tortured and murdered IDF soldier Moshe Tamam in 1984 - from the national culture basket.
When asked why he himself had not removed the "shocking" play from the Education Ministry program to bring culture to Israel's youth, Piron responded that he had not been aware of the show, but that "Bennett was right" in his decision.
