A haunting recording has been released of seven children from the same family who died in a tragic house fire last Saturday in New York.

The Sassoon family home was engulfed in flames over Shabbat, apparently after a hotplate malfunctioned, killing siblings Elian (16), David (12), Rivka (11), Yehoshua (10), Moshe (8), Sara (6), and Yaakov (5).

Their funeral - which began Sunday in Brooklyn and ended Monday afternoon with their burial in Jerusalem - was attended by hundreds of mourners in both Israel and the US, and saw scenes of intense grief, including an emotional eulogy by their father, who was away at a conference during the fire.

But Wednesday's recording offers a different picture into the seven young lives lost. In it, the Sassoon siblings can be heard singing together in a rendition of Jewish singer Yaakov Shwekey's song "Cry No More".

Hauntingly, the song begins with various tragedies, and ends with hope for the coming of the Redemption.

The recording was apparently made just two weeks before the deadly fire.

Their mother and older sister survived by jumping from a window in the family home, and were hospitalized in serious conditions.

Neighbors told of hearing children screaming for help; the victims are believed to have been overcome by smoke after becoming trapped in a room during the blaze.
