The security establishment decided Saturday evening to put Construction and Housing Minister Uri Ariel (Jewish Home) under the protection of a 24-hour security detail.
The decision was reached after terror organizations threatened to hurt the minister, in view of his active support for the idea of Jewish prayer on the Temple Mount, and for Jewish housing in eastern Jerusalem.
Minister Ariel will join another politician who is active in the struggle for the Temple Mount, MK Moshe Feiglin (Likud), who has received a bodyguard detail since the shooting of co-activist Yehuda Glick.
In recent weeks, it has been reported that Ariel wants to move to Ir David, the City of David, where the seat of government of the legendary King David stood, some 3,000 years ago.
He visited several potential apartments with his wife and informed the VIP Protection Unit of the Israel Security Agency (ISA, or Shin Bet) of his intention to relocate.
Glick posed Thursday for his first photo since he was shot point blank by a would-be assassin two weeks ago.
"Praise G-d, Yehuda's condition continues to improve,” his wife Yafi told the press. “We are experiencing miracles every day and we see, before our very eyes, how the prayers and powers from the entire nation of Israel reach us. A great thank you is sent to you from me, from the family and from Yehuda, of course.”
Yafi asked that people continue to pray for Yehuda (Yehuda Yehoshua ben Ita Brenda) but refrain from coming to the hospital, since the medical staff feel that it is not yet time for that.
On Tuesday, Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein announced that he had received a personal phone call from Glick, who informed him that he had begun breathing on his own without a respirator.
