In honor of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, the UN General Assembly on Monday held a special session commemorating the day. Several speakers, including Israeli UN ambassador Ron Prosor. Attending the session was a special guest, movie producer Steven Speilberg.
Prosor slammed the UN for its hypocritical relationdship with Israel, honoring the memories of long-dead Jews, while ignoring or even encouraging anti-Semitic countries to continue their negative behavior. “The UN is commemorating International Holocaust Day, but the hate expressed by the nations shows that this organization has not yet internalized the meaning of the Holocaust,” said Prosor.
“Nearly 70 years after the end of World War II we still see racist incidents and anti-Semitic incidents around the world. This hate expresses itself in the form of religious functionaries who preach Jew hatred, textbooks with anti-Semitic drawings and in speeches made by leaders.”
Prosor stressed that all these phenomena were still extant in the Palestinian Authority. “The Palestinians teach their children that Jewish lives are worth less. They teach that the Holocaust was a 'lie manufactured by the Zionists. These things are set out loud, in front of large crowds, on children's TV programs, and in cultural events. Similar messages are heard throughout the Arab world,” said Prosor.
Prosor told those present that “Israel is strong enough and prosperous enough to survive these things. Its existence is a living testimony to the victory of the human spirit. Only through the State of Israel can the Jewish people defend itself by itself. Israel is the only guarantee that the Jewish people will no longer be dependent on others,” he added.
