Dr. Tamir Perry, a 34-year-old orthopedic surgeon at Soroka Hospital in Be'er Sheva, has drowned at Ashkelon's Sela Beach. He was married with two children, aged 4 and 5.
His body was discovered Sunday morning in deep water by police and volunteers who had been searching for him since late Saturday night.
An initial police investigation showed that Perry had gone walking for exercise Saturday and at a certain point decided to go into the water for a swim. His shoes were found on the beach. When he failed to come home, his family reported the matter to police.
Perry worked at the orthopedic wing of Soroka for the past four years. He had planned to go on a special internship in the US, to specialize in shoulder and hand injuries.
Prof. Dan Atar, who heads the Orthopedic Wing in the hospital, said Perry was an excellent doctor, much beloved by co-workers and patients. “This is a great loss for the wing,” he said.
