A string of drowning accidents on Friday and Saturday claimed three lives and left 13 more people injured, two of them critically.
On Friday, a 21-year-old man drowned in Netanya. The next day, a 60-year-old man died of drowning in Tel Aviv.
The youngest victim was a 14-month-old boy from the town of Omer in southern Israel who fell into the family pool. The child’s father discovered his body in the water and attempted to resuscitate him, as did local paramedics, but doctors were ultimately forced to declare his death.
Thirteen others were hospitalized for drowning-related injuries. Two of them, a man in his mid-50s and a man in his early 20s, are in critical condition.
Tel Aviv’s beach police managed to save the lives of three relatives who nearly drowned at a local beach. The three family members – a 25-year-old man, 22-year-old woman and 14-year-old girl – were pulled from the water as they struggled to stay afloat.
They were taken to hospital, where two are in moderate condition and one is in fair condition.
