New York police are hunting a suspect in Thursday’s murder of Brooklyn store owner Isaac Kadare, who is to buried in Israel early this week. Rewards of up to $22,000 have been posted for information leading to the arrest of the killer.
Kadare, 59 is a native of Egypt. He was shot in the head and stabbed in the throat Thursday night in his “Amazing 99 Cents Deals” store, and police suspect the murderer is the same person who killed another shopkeeper last month. The same type of .22 caliber gun was used in both homicides.
Kadare owned the store and the building, which included two apartments above it. Tenants told CBS 2 in New York that he was a fair and decent man. A friend said Kadare learned Torah every day.
Residents in the neighborhood are scared of escalating violence in the area, and local officials have distributed sketch of the suspected killer to other store owners.
Kadare is survived by his wife, three daughters and a son.
“I don’t even know what to do,” said his wife Nancy told the New York Post. “He loved his family, his four kids. He was a really hard-working man, I don’t get it. A person is alive one day, and the next they are not.”
Among the rewards posted is a $5,000 offer from New York City Councilman David Greenfield, in cooperation with the Sephardic Community Federation. State Senator Marty Golden has offered $5,000 for information on the murder victime, and the New York City Police Department and Crime Stoppers have posted another $12,000 reward.
