A Torah scroll that survived the Holocaust is being donated for the eternal memory of five members of the Fogel family, brutally murdered earlier this year by Arab terrorists.
The holy scroll, donated by Americans for a Safe Israel member Jack Ross, will be dedicated Tuesday afternoon in a new synagogue built on Givat Aryeh, a new neighborhood in Itamar on the actual path that the terrorists used.
Two Arab teenagers from a nearby Arab village infiltrated into the adjoining Jewish community of Itamar, in northern Samaria, on a Friday night in April and brutally stabbed to death Rabbi Udi Fogel, his wife Ruthie and three of their six small children.
One of the victims was a three-month old baby girl, and the barbaric murders shocked even foreign media that usually ascribe terrorist attacks as a reaction to a Jewish presence in Judea and Samaria.
One of the murderers, who expressed no remorse, has been sentenced to life in jail, and the other has pleaded guilty but has not yet been sentenced.
A delegation headed by Ross is coming from the United States to attend the celebration of receiving a Torah scroll at Itamar. Although the Torah scroll is old, there will be the traditional ceremony of writing the final letters because of the need to repair many of the letters.
Gershon Mesika, chairman of the Shomron (Samaria) Regional Council, Benny Katzover, head of the Residents Committee of Samaria, and Rabbi Elyakim Levanon, the chief rabbi in Samaria, will attend the dedication.
