Families from Migron protested Sunday outside the Jerusalem home of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu. Their protest followed the midnight expulsion of three families from their homes last week.
The protesters chose to target Netanyahu despite attempts within the ruling Likud party to blame the demolition on Defense Minister Ehud Barak.
While Barak bears direct responsibility for the expulsion and destruction, Netanyahu is ultimately responsible for everything his government does, local leaders explained.
They also noted that Netanyahu had established a committee to deal with the issue of Migron’s expected forced relocation. The community was established with government assistance, but the Supreme Court has since ruled that it must be destroyed.
MK Danny Danon (Likud) admitted that Netanyahu bears “general responsibility” for Migron’s fate, but added, “the enthusiasm to move forward [with the demolition], the thirst to destroy, was that of the Defense Minister.”
