Border Guard policeman Kfir Ohayon, 20, from Eilat, was killed yesterday afternoon in a Palestinian suicide bombing attack at the Erez Crossing in northern Gaza. Two soldiers and a civilian were also wounded in the attack, including one in serious condition. The terrorist evaded tough Israeli security - at one point he lifted his shirt to show that he was 'clean,' but the bomb was well-hidden in his pants - and exploded himself near the Israeli security personnel. Both Hamas and Yasser Arafat's Fatah terror organizations claimed responsibility for the attack.

Kfir, the oldest of four siblings, had long dreamt of serving as a Border Guard fighter. He enlisted less than a year ago, and completed a junior commanders' course two months ago. Dozens of friends and relatives filled the Ohayon house in Eilat last night, but the mother's sobbing in the otherwise thick silence was an indication of the little that could be said about an eldest son killed at the age of 20. Kfir was buried this afternoon in the Eilat Military Cemetery.

The attack was the fourth one at or near the Erez Industrial Zone in northern Gaza since the beginning of this year. On Jan. 14, Sgt. Tzur Ohr, 20, security guard Gal Shapira, 29, Corp. Andrei Kegeles, 19, and Border Guard St.-Sgt. Vladimir Trostinsky, 22 were killed when an Arab mother of two small children cried for mercy and then blew herself up at the Erez Crossing. On Feb. 26, Sgt. Amir Zimmerman was killed in a clash with terrorists in northern Gaza. Another attempted attack ended with no casualties.
