Defense Minister Sha'ul Mofaz allowed, only hours before the onset of the Rosh HaShanah holiday, a Jewish group to move in to property adjacent to Rachel's Tomb in Bethlehem. Forty people, including students of the Rachel's Tomb yeshiva and other students and their families, spent the two-day holiday there.

Even more dramatically, two families hope to move in permanently in the course of the next two weeks - - the first Jews to live in the city in several decades. Appropriate security measures such as bullet-proof windows have been installed, but the army has required the new occupants to implement additional ones. Bus trips to visit the new project, as well as others in eastern Jerusalem, will be arranged over the Sukkot holiday; details to follow.
