A focused operation by Israel Police detectives led to the confiscation of 3,000 fireworks on Wednesday morning, a police statement said.

In the operation, 120 containers containing a total of 3,000 fireworks were found. It is believed that the fireworks were intended for distribution in Jerusalem's Arab neighborhoods in the coming days.

An 18-year-old suspect, resident of an Arab neighborhood in Jerusalem, was arrested by the detectives after fireworks were found in his possession. He is being interrogated for neglectful handling of explosive items.

Israel Police has warned against the possession and use of fireworks by anyone not authorized to handle them, since fireworks are made from explosive materials and can cause severe injuries, as well as serious damage to property if they ignite a fire.

"Israel Police will continue to act in order to locate those who possess and make use of fireworks in contradiction to the law, in order to prevent the continuation of the crime and to bring the [perpetrators] to justice," an Israel Police statement said.
